This New Moon in Capricorn is an exceptionally promising start to 2026, not only does it mark the first new moon of this Gregorian year but it is also an exceptionally well-aspected New Moon for manifesting just before eclipse season starts!
Here’s all that you need to know about this New Moon in Capricorn.
What’s in the stars?

This New Moon in Capricorn takes place on the 18th of January at 7.51pm CET.
The Sun and the Moon will be conjunct at 28º Capricorn. In close conjunction, there will be both Mercury and Mars at 26º Capricorn and Venus that will have recently moved in to 1º Aquarius. Forming a minor grand trine, we find both Saturn in 27º Pisces and Neptune in 29º Piscis sextiling the New Moon and Uranus in 27º Taurus trining the New Moon, too. Another aspect influencing this New Moon subtly is the square to Chiron in 22º Aries.
What’s the vibe?
Capricorn is arguably the most practical and rational sign of the zodiac, perhaps even the most out of all of the Earth signs. Capricorn is known for its boldness and taking long and consistent action to achieve its long term goals. It focuses on putting in the hard work to make its ambitions happen from a hyper-realistic and rational perspective, leaning more towards the action that can have a direct physical result and basing its decisions upon that outcome rather than basing their actions on their emotions, impulses, desires or thoughts.
Capricorns are everyone’s reality check because its energy is a reminder of our limitations, not to distraught but rather to be so fully aware of them that with hardwork and persistence we can break through those walls for as long as it takes. Capricorn is a reminder that ambition is only a positive quality when it goes hand in hand with tenacity – you can dream big, you just need to put in the work.

The Minor Trine

In astrology, a minor trine is a harmonic aspect that provides us with gifts and opportunities to grow. Taking into account that this minor trine involves the outer planets Saturn, Neptune and Uranus, this New Moon is an opportunity to take the first step to make monumental change in our lives for our own benefit.
On one hand, we have Saturn, Capricorn’s ruling planet, that will provide the structure and realism to support the ideas that we want to materialise in this moment in time of our lives for long-term growth. Moreover, we have Neptune that gives us this other-worldly intuition and spiritual perspective to have a broader view on our current reality and bring our awareness to what our soul is calling us to do to transform and align to our purpose. Lastly, we have Uranus, planet of rebellion and sudden breakthroughs, that can bless us with a different perspective as well as a new, practical approach to achieve our goals thanks to Taurus.
What makes this Minor Trine even more interesting is that all of these outer planets are in their last degrees and are particularly the planets that are going to mark the rest of 2026 once they transition to the next sign, like Neptune in Aries on the 26th of January. This Minor Trine is rapping up narratives that have been occurring over the past few years – Neptune will change signs after being in Pisces since 2011, Saturn will change signs after being in Pisces since 2023 and Uranus will change signs after being in Taurus since 2018. In summary, it’ll be marking the end of an era that goes as far back as 15 years ago, giving us the opportunity to put an end to a storyline and have a head start for the next.
So…?
This New Moon is promising as it gives us the power and direction to create productive systems for our long-term, positive growth as well as allowing us to reflect upon what legacy we want to create that will stand the test of time. Whatismore, it ushers us into this new phase that 2026 is all about – new beginnings, new opportunities and new narratives. Life is going to change majorly this year, so you might as well notice what is surfacing these days prior and after the New Moon to get a taste of what’s to come.
BESIDES, this will be the last New Moon before the new eclipse season that will be on the Aquarius and Leo axis as the nodes will finally finish their trajectory on the Pisces-Virgo axis. Do you really need any other reason to manifest on this New Moon?
Suggestions for this New Moon
1. Give yourself a reality check
For more than a week, we’ve had all of the personal planets in Capricorn – so don’t be surprised if your winter depression has gotten stronger as Capricorn has been giving a major slap in the face to wake us up and touch some grass to remind us where our life is right now. We are excruciatingly aware of our limitations and of the work needed to truly progress in our life, so… Instead of letting our reality daunt us, be honest with yourself and reflect on every single area in your life (your sense of self, your health, your finances, your home, your family, your friends, your work, your hobbies, your passions, your education…) and take note of where you are and where you’d like to be.
2. Level up
I love this exercise. I did this one years and years ago and I still think about it to this day. Take a paper and lay it down vertically, dividing the paper in five horizontal sections. At the bottom, name or draw where you are in your life at the moment and at the top name or draw where you’d like to be. The bottom section will be your starting point and your top section will be your top level or, for video game sake, let’s say it’s when Mario finally saves Peach from Bowser’s castle. Once you’ve done that, write down what you will have achieved BEFORE getting to the top level and work yourself down the levels by diluting what you will have achieved before “going up a level”
Imagine that this year you want to get your driver’s license, level 1 would be no driver’s license, level 5 would be having your driver’s license. Level 4 would be passing your practical exam, level 3 would be passing your theory exam, level 2 would be taking up studying and registering yourself at a driving school.
You can actually make as many levels as you like, you can even make yourself some mini levels in your levels… But often the simpler, the better.

3. Manifest

Although Capricorn is an exceptionally rational sign, asking a bit of help from the universe, God or spirit is only natural to have that extra celestial push we need to get some ambitious goals met, no matter how unattainable we might find them.
So, make a list on a paper of ten things you need divine help with – be it getting a job that meets your needs, finding your new home, meeting people that are more aligned with your values… Anything. Once you write those divine petitions down, fold the paper and lay it under a candle. For the next two weeks, light that candle every night.
BONUS POINTS if you read your petitions out loud before going to bed and light the candle again.
