Marking the last lunation of 2025, this New Moon in Sagittarius beams with optimism, endless possibility and expansion to usher us into a brand new Gregorian year. However, its influence from Neptune and Saturn in Pisces asks us to find a balance between the rose coloured glasses and staying grounded in our long-term vision. Here’s what you need to know!
What’s in the stars?

This New Moon takes place on the 20th of December at 2:43am CET. It has both the Sun and the Moon conjunct at 28 degrees of Sagittarius. Squaring this conjunction is Neptune and Saturn at 29 and 25 degrees of Pisces respectively. There is also a subtle influence of Uranus, trining Neptune and Saturn at 28 degrees of Taurus – impacting the Sun-Moon conjunction as a quincunx (150 degrees between them).
Sagittarius Season
As this New Moon also marks the end of Sagittarius season as it occurs the day before the Winter Solstice and the beginning of Capricorn season, I think this is the best moment to really capture the essence of Sagittarian and mutable energy.

Sagittarius is a mutable sign along with Gemini, Virgo and Pisces. Mutable signs are the signs that occur just between the changes of the seasons, something that really encompasses their slightly chaotic energy of being the “morphers” or “chameleons” of the Zodiac, capable of adapting to their surroundings. However, such flexibility makes them rather erratic, unreliable and absent minded if not under control.
Sagittarius in particular is the bubbly social butterfly and the goofy weirdo that manages to get everyone to talk about the big questions in life in a low-key manner. They are sentient, passionate beings that are intrigued by academia, philosophy, religion and dogma, making them the moral questioners of the zodiac. Although they do have an oddness to them, their optimistic aura and their adaptability make them win just about anyone over.
When it comes to Sagittarius Season, I always love to bring it up when highlighting the drastic changes within mutable signs to cardinal signs. Sagittarius season really does bring this excitement and anticipation for the holidays whilst when you’re actually in the midst of it (full on Capricorn season), it can be sluggish and a generally challenging time to reflect on the year (as we tend to reflect on our limitations and not on our successes, very Capricorn) and for some being with family can be strenuous (Capricorn being the father of the zodiac signs, highlighting tradition and family).
The Neptune-Saturn conjunction
This lunation is particularly interesting because of the influence of the Neptune-Saturn conjunction as both planets give off different energies. Neptune, exceptionally comfortable in Pisces, is the planet of imagination, spirituality, illusion and dreams whilst Saturn is all about long-term commitment, ambition, responsibility, structure and karma. Unlike Neptune, Saturn is rather uncomfortable in hazy Pisces but whenever Saturn is in Pisces, there can be a lot of creative energy that can be materialised into major musical hits, films and art.
So, what’s the vibe?
Although this is a New Moon, which are known for their manifesting energies, it is a New Moon that has a subtle Full Moon energy as it invites us to have this manifesting energy but to be aware of what needs to be erradicated or changed that is limiting us because of Saturn’s structural energy.
Many of us will feel a pull to take action to set us on track for the direction we envision ourselves to head. Sagittarius gives us its fiery energy to get us going to take these steps forward to manifesting this reality and Neptune breaks the limits of our reality by opening us up to an endless amount of possibilities and invites us to dream to our heart’s content. However, to not get confused and delulu by all of these alternative paths and realities, we have Saturn anchoring us down into reality to make us think about the tangible structures in our life that need to materialise for these dreams to not stay within the realm of our imagination but to actually transform our lives. Besides, Saturn as well as Uranus’ subtle energy also asks us to breakthrough anything that is blocking us or limiting us from materialising these ideas.
Suggestions for this New Moon
What were you doing December 2024?
The interesting thing about this New Moon is that 2024’s New Moon in Sagittarius also had Saturn’s influence, which means that anything that arose between December 1st and the end of Sagittarius season (20th) might be more intensified or reappearing this lunation. Therefore, look through your phone, your photos, your conversations… What narrative began last December and is at a midpoint this lunation to expand and materialise?
Wait a minute… What exactly DO I WANT?
So, if you’ve been thinking a lot about the endless possibilities of life that can unfold in front of you and you’re caught between the excitement and the haziness of Pisces and Sagittarius (mutable signs, remember, they’ve got the tendency to make ye feel chaotic!)… Write down EVERYTHING you’ve been thinking about.
What desires have you been feeling?
How do you want to grow?
What do you want to learn next year?
Manifest
This lunation is particularly potent because, if used wisely, we can harness Neptune’s creativity, spirituality and illusion to broaden our vision when it comes to our possible future reality whilst Saturn can provide us the stepping stones to create a solid foundation for this reality to unfold. SO, get your creative juices flowing and get yourself thinking about your belief system. What new beliefs should you instore, instead of following belief systems that can’t give you the mental space to do this quantum leap you envision?
